New brewpub Gibberish to open in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle

The Baltic Triangle’s newest venue opens Thursday 14th December and it’s a fresh concept from a familiar face.

Gaz Matthews, co-founder of Mad Hatter Brewing, launches GIBBERISH BREWPUB offering a host of beers with the experimental flair the brewer has become known for.

The Caryl Street venue will allow Matthews to brew and sell all his creations on the same premises and constantly rotate the menu of craft beers and other beverages.

Matthews said: “Gibberish is focused on bringing together all the elements of brewing I’ve enjoyed most over the years – crazy experimental beers, sours of different descriptions, modern IPAs, ancient historical recipes and mead making.

“The idea is to bring the old and the new together to create a kind of ‘trad craft’ offering. Emphasis on well-kept cask, interesting keg, and customers can take beer away in growlers. Mead using locally produced Postcode Honey will also be on show fermenting behind the bar.”

Matthews previous venture, Mad Hatter, at which he remains a director, gained a name for itself by dealing in left field ales rooted in the local. Beers such as Penny Lane Pale, Nightmare on Bold Street and Baltic Porter have all gained a special place in the hearts of beer drinkers on Merseyside and further afield.

A stone’s throw from the Baltic Market, Gibberish Brewpub will be a welcome addition to the Baltic’s thriving food and drink offer.

Matthews wants to demystify the world of ales with the name of his new venture alluding to his take on the current craft beer climate. Gibberish brewpub represents a move away from a culture which can often risk being pretentious and towards an emphasis on great tasting drinks, fun and a warm atmosphere.

Local artist Amee Christian (pictured) has been drafted in to paint an interior mural which will evolve over time. The venue will also host regular live music events with music on the launch night provided by jazz outfit Blind Monk Trio.

The special launch event will be the first chance to sample Matthews new array of beverages. On the menu will be a ‘Eton Mess’ Sour Beer, a Belgian style Abbey Ale and a Peanut Butter Raspberry Jelly Stout.

Gibberish Brewpub joins the Baltic Market, Kiosk, Dockleaf Bedouin and Crafty Mindedin what is a fantastic community of food and drink venues in the south end of the thriving Baltic Triangle.

Gibberish Brewpub opens with a special launch night featuring sets from Blind Monk Trio on Thursday 14th December.
