Cunard Line's Three Queens Meeting; 24th-26th May

Summer 2015 will see Liverpool’s famous waterfront host a seven week programme of events under the title “One Magnificent City” which will see visits by Cunard Cruise ships, the International Mersey River Festival and the re-enactment of the first transatlantic sailing from Liverpool – 175 years on.

May 2015 will welcome the Three Cunard Queens; Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria who will meet in the River Mersey for the first time in an event that will make maritime history. Following this spectacular once in a lifetime event, the International Mersey River Festival and On the Waterfront concerts will take place on the Pier Head and Albert Dock sites in June for all ages to enjoy. Ending the spectacular maritime theme is the July celebration of the first transatlantic crossing as Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 sails from Liverpool, recreating the original voyage of Britannia from Liverpool to Halifax and Boston which first set out in July 1840.

When Queen Elizabeth 2 arrived in the River Mersey for the first time in 1990 more than a million spectators turned out to see her and the 15 visits made by Cunard Queens since then have always received warm and enthusiastic welcomes by the people of Liverpool. Having three Queens together on the Mersey is an event that will live long in the memories of all who witness it.

On 24 May, Queen Mary 2 arrives in Liverpool and the next day, 25 May, will sail to meet Queen Elizabeth & Queen Victoria. The fleet will sail in formation along the Mersey for the perfect photo opportunity. Queen Mary 2 departs the Mersey that afternoon and Queen Elizabeth departs that evening. Queen Victoria remains in Liverpool until 26 May, departing late afternoon.
