Band Feature; The Debt Stars

The Debt Stars have been a band bubbling under the surface for some time now, not to be rushed into releasing new music but we’ve heard that things are about to change for the Liverpool-based band. Their current track ‘Shallow Grave’ has been garnering attention on their Soundcloud page just recently; a teaser of what’s to come in the summer.

‘Shallow Grave’ is a punchy, brutal track. There is a nice sinister edge to the guitars on this interesting indie punk track from The Debt Stars. Edgy and unfinished enough to stay true to the genre. The energy harks back to bands like The Dead Kennedys and The Damned, but the sound still has a modern feel.

There is a harshness to the music and the vocals, a vicious rhythm driving through the song. The Liverpool trio have much softer influences than their sound would suggest on this track, with Pulp, Suede and Echo and The Bunnymen on the list. It would be hard to place any trace of them on ‘Shallow Grave’ though. This is a whirlwind of a piece; a musical storm. If you like your music to tell it like it is and hit you right in the solar plexus, this is for you.
