81 Ltd Bar – A Little-Known Bar on a Well-Known Street

I received the code for 81 Ltd on Saturday afternoon, a few hours before my visit. I knew as soon as I got the text, this place was going to be cool.

Lying in the heart of Liverpool’s nightlife scene, it’s easily one of the most chic places around. To reach the bar, we walked up a set of shady stairs to the forbidden door and typed in our code. On opening the door, there was a small corridor surrounded by mirrors.  For a split second my friends and I were confused as which way to go. That is until a door abruptly opened and a welcoming hostess asked for our details to check that we were on the guest list. How exciting – we were in!

Inside the candle-lit bar, you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time.  You immediately encounter a huge bar, stretching the length of the room. Opposite, there are a handful of cosy booths as well as a suspicious looking ‘caged’ table. Still, the place packed we headed straight for the bar. After 15 minutes of trying to decide what to drink from the delicious-looking menu, I opted for the Siberian Trust Serum. And what a choice it was. A mix of vodka, rhubarb liqueur, mint, apple and lemon, I couldn’t wait to decide what I was going to have next.

81 Ltd Liverpool Speakeasy

I then opted for the classic – the Bellini. A drink doesn’t get much better than champagne mixed with lemon juice. The showmanship that went into making these drinks was only outdone by the vibrant tastes. Watching the skilled bartenders do their thing was worth the price of the drink alone.

With no lack of choice, guests can enjoy anything from rum, gin, whiskey and extravagant cocktails perfectly suited to the vibe the bar is trying to omit. And the bar tenders do not hesitate in giving you a recommendation in choosing from the array of spirits immaculately presented behind the bar.

This ‘speakeasy’ styled bar has a secretive and exclusive atmosphere.  There are not many places around Liverpool which can match the 1920s decor and only those in the know certainly get to enjoy it.Even though the taxi driver on the way home knew exactly where I’d been, I still felt content with the fact that only a handful of people will experience this majestically ‘hush, hush’ bar.
