Liverpool based Rock ‘n’ Roll band ‘The Sundowners’ appear to be taking not only Liverpool, but the UK by storm this summer. With the release of their EP ‘Medicine’ earlier this year on May 12th , they began a small UK tour stopping in the likes of London, Leeds, Bristol and even Glasgow; demonstrating their already widely spread fan base.
The ‘Medicine’ EP was recorded during sessions for the upcoming album and featured track ‘Medicine’ perfectly portrays the Rock ‘n’ Roll genre that the band label themselves as. The track begins with a guitar riff which is thickly coated in effects before strong female vocals enter. It’s a fresh twist on the typical Rock genre as the soulful twang of the vocals give The Sundowners that slight edge, making them stand out amongst other Rock ‘n’ Roll bands around at the moment. As the chorus kicks in, the statement heavy drums and guitar emphasise the typical Rock head-banging rhythm, accompanied by the off-beat rhythm of the tambourine and powerful female harmonies on the vocals. Although the song does have a rather repetitive feel about it, this does not retract from the overall quality and appears to broaden the appeal to the listener as it makes for a perfect Summer festival song.

This being said, The Sundowners sure have been dancing around the festivals this Summer. From performances at Festevol, Astral Coast festival and Isle of White festival to Strawberry fields festival; the band managed to land one of their biggest performances to date supporting Glastonbury headliners ‘Kasabian’. As we come to the end of the festival season, we await the release of the upcoming album and wonder what is next in store for the band. Their ever growing popularity up and down the UK makes fans hopeful that their next move is to start branching their music out further into Europe post album release. After such a successful summer, the next move The Sundowners make will be critical in determining which direction they are headed in- here’s to hoping it’s the right one!
