Artists Announced For Liverpool Book Art Fair 2017

Visitors to Liverpool Central Library during the weekend of July 8th-9th will walk into the fourth chapter of an amazing story.

Liverpool Book Art, fresh from successfully creating 2016’s popular Shakespeare-themed exhibition, returns this summer for the fourth time to occupy the refurbished city centre gem with the diverse work of a wide array of leading book artists.

What is book art? – We’re glad you asked… the book art banner houses a whole host of interesting, intriguing and imaginative pieces of work, from unique hand-made books to book sculptures.

“I’ve been collecting artists’ books for a number of years” said founder Simon Ryder.“Once people get the chance to see what they are, they get captivated by them. But not enough people know about artists’ books, as there are few opportunities to see them. By putting on the Liverpool Fair over the last four years we’ve tried to expand the range and numbers of people aware of and involved in the art.”It’s worked. Visitor numbers were up again last year and Liverpool Book Art is returning to the spectacular Central Library to continue the success story. “The response from artists to help me mark Shakespeare’s anniversary with an exhibition last year was overwhelmingly enthusiastic,” says Ryder. “This year the fair presents a rare opportunity to meet artists who make book art and to buy directly from them.”

The 2017 fair will showcase the work of over 50 artists, with over half participating in the Liverpool event for the first time. The works available demonstrate the huge range of materials and subjects artists use to create their books. There will be books made with hand-made paper; glass & clay; fabric & felt; recycled objects; as well as what you might expect! Book topics include fairy tales, poetry, landscapes, emotions & memory, the environment, feminism, historical figures, and also notebooks and bookbinding for your own creativity. There will even be a library rave, with hand-held disco lights!

In addition to the Fair, there will be demonstrations, workshops, talks and performances, during the course of the weekend, including workshops for children and adults.

Liverpool Book Art returns July 8th-9th 2017 in Liverpool Central Library. The FREE event runs from 10am-5pm Saturday, July 8th and 10.30am-4.30pmSunday, July 9th.
